Amethan Sultan (1920–1971) was born on October 20 in the city of Alupka. A graduate of the 1
st Kachinsk Military Aviation School, during the years of the Great Patriotic War, he made the way from a pilot to a squadron commander of the 9
th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and proved himself as a recognized ace. In total, during the war, Amethan Sultan made 603 weapons sorties, participated in 150 air battles, and shot down 30 enemy aircrafts individually and 19 planes in a composition of a group.
The envelope with a commemorative stamp provides an image of the emblem of celebration of the 75
th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945; the main image features two
Gold Star medals and a portrait of Amethan Sultan against a La-7 fighter plane.
In addition to the issue of the envelope with a commemorative stamp, JSC
Marka will produce special cancels for Moscow and Alupka of the Republic of Crimea.
