On May 8, an envelope with a commemorative stamp devoted to the 100th birth anniversary of Amethan Sultan, airplane pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, was put into postal circulation


Amethan Sultan (1920–1971) was born on October 20 in the city of Alupka. A graduate of the 1st Kachinsk Military Aviation School, during the years of the Great Patriotic War, he made the way from a pilot to a squadron commander of the 9th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and proved himself as a recognized ace. In total, during the war, Amethan Sultan made 603 weapons sorties, participated in 150 air battles, and shot down 30 enemy aircrafts individually and 19 planes in a composition of a group.

The envelope with a commemorative stamp provides an image of the emblem of celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945; the main image features two Gold Star medals and a portrait of Amethan Sultan against a La-7 fighter plane.

In addition to the issue of the envelope with a commemorative stamp, JSC Marka will produce special cancels for Moscow and Alupka of the Republic of Crimea.
