The activities of the World Association for the Development of Philately summarized in Bern



On February 19, 2020, a meeting of the Postal Operations Council of the Universal Postal Union was held in Bern (Switzerland). The President of BARF, Director General of JSC Marka Artyom Adibekov reported on the results of the activities of the World Association for the Development of Philately (BARF) in 2017–2019.

With the aim in view of philately popularization and promotion by issuance UPU communications administrations that are members of the Universal Postal Union, it was suggested to issue postal stamps dedicated to the International Year of Indigenous Languages announced by UNESCO in 2019, the 20th anniversary of the EMS and the 145th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union. In October 2019, a philatelic exhibition was arranged in the frames of the celebration of the 145th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union that reflected the history of the Union through postal stamps. The display demonstrated postal miniatures from 189 countries.

Currently, a new web site of the WNS system (World Numbering System) is under construction to be adapted to the application of modern technologies, which will contribute to the development of the philatelic market. The new site envisages advanced search functions that would allow one to develop various types of activities on this new platform, in particular, with regard to sales and marketing, for improved promotion of philatelic products by all the appointed operators.

In order to improve the efficiency of the WARF activities, a new work schedule was approved in October 2019, which will enter into force in 2021 at the start of the Abidjan business cycle.

All the WARF events are aimed at mainstreaming philately as a cultural object of global significance.
