The World Association for the Development of Philately Meets in Saint Petersburg

The Management Committee and the General Assembly of the World Association for the Development of Philately (WADP) met in the Popov Central Museum of Communications in Saint Petersburg on June 7. Oleg Dukhovnitsky, Head of the Federal Communications Agency, gave the opening address at the event. Other notable attendees included Artyom Adibekov, President of the World Association for the Development of Philately, and Olfa Mokaddem, Philately and IRCs Programme Manager of the Universal Postal Union International Bureau.

The WADP Management Committee held its first meeting within the 2018–2020 working session. The results of work in the sphere of philately were summed up, a work plan and renewed rules of procedure were approved during the event. A specific point of discussion was about the partnership between the World Association for the Development of Philately and philately market players.

In 2018, Russia hosts the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The International Bureau is currently drawing up an official cooperation agreement between the Universal Postal Union and FIFA. This agreement can open up new ways of cooperation at international and national level between football federations and issuing administrations.

A competition and a conference on electronic philately within the framework of an international exhibition in China in September 2018 and a training workshop for the Arab world in Tunisia in spring 2019 are planned for the short term.

The WADP Numbering System (WNS), which has proved its efficiency in combating illegal issues and counterfeits, continues to develop. So far, 191 countries have been registered in the system with 65% actively and regularly sending their stamps for registration to it. The number of postage stamps on the website amounts to 90,501 items. Today, the WNS is the only means enabling secure commerce of postal issuing entities and the advertising of stamps issued in the world among international collectors.

Representatives of the issuing administrations of Azerbaijan, Israel, Russia, and Tunisia took part in the events of the World Association for the Development of Philately.
