The event was attended by Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergey Naryshkin, Head of the Federal Communications Agency Oleg Duchovnitskiy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia Toehisa Kodzuki, and Special Presidential Envoy for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy.
The Russian-Japanese relations have lasted for 300 years. In 2018, Russia and Japan are holding a bilateral year which aims at the further development and strengthening of bilateral relations.
Russia and Japan are famous for wonderful nature with its interesting and beautiful flora. Natural wealth is one of the most popular themes in philately. The stamps show flowers tied by ribbons with colors of the state flags: a chrysanthemum and sakura from the Japanese side and a chamomile and rhododendron from the Russian side. The designer is a Japanese artist, Hoshiyama Ayaka.
“The Federal Communications Agency and Marka JSC traditionally dedicate state postage stamp issues to flora and fauna, picturesque landscapes of the country. 196,000 copies of each stamp have been printed and will be distributed worldwide. I strongly believe that these stamps will attain a unique status, become a philatelic rarity among collectors, and will commemorate this event forever,” said the head of the Federal Communications Agency.
