June 5, 2018, is the 300th anniversary of the Russian police. Over three centuries, this most important public authority institution has come along a hard path of development, always maintaining public order and civil safety as the main power combating crime. The Soviet militsiya (police), members of which heroically fought in the Second World War, provided security of logistics facilities and transport, and maintained public order in the country in peacetime, also has a proud history.
The Russian police is a powerful and efficient part of the law enforcement system in the country with high-quality special equipment and armaments, up-to-date methods of solving crimes, and highly-skilled personnel. Employees of the law enforcement remain committed to and support the best police traditions holding a professional and honorable service.
The miniature sheet shows the painting Announcement of Peter I Decree on Appointment of A.M. Devier as the General Chief of Police of St. Petersburg (2015) by A.A. Shumeyko, which is kept at the Vereshagin Art Studio of the Interior Ministry of Russia.
“The miniature sheet marking the anniversary of the Russian police will help to improve the image of the law enforcement and commemorate this event. I strongly believe that this miniature sheet will attain a unique status, become a philatelic rarity among collectors all over the world,” said Deputy Head of the Federal Communications Agency.
