Official ceremony of the commemorative cancellation of the postal cards marking the 315th anniversary of St. Petersburg takes place on May 24

The event was attended by Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko and Head of the Federal Communications Agency Oleg Duchovnitskiy.

The city was founded by Peter the Great in 1703. It has historical and cultural links to the establishment of the Russian Empire and the beginning of the modern history of Russia as a European superpower. It is a symbol of Russia’s imperial power and military glory. Saint Petersburg was the center of three revolutions: the Revolution of 1905-1907, the February and October Revolutions of 1917. During World War II, the city was under siege for 872 days. Today Saint Petersburg is the center of economic, science, and culture life in Russia, a large transportation hub. The historical center of Saint Petersburg and a number of monuments related to it are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

“The Federal Communications Agency and Marka JSC traditionally dedicate state postage stamp issues to commemorative historical dates and important events in the history of our country. A great number of stamps is dedicated to historical and architectural monuments of Saint Petersburg. A postal card with a graphic print marking the 315th anniversary of Saint Petersburg is issued today in 4,000 copies. It will commemorate today’s event and complement philatelists’ collections all over the world.

“Saint Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet, a treasury of world arts, the Russian capital of culture, a modern business, industrial, and educational center. This campaign pays tribute to the hero-city which participated in great historical events,” said the Governor of Saint Petersburg.
