March 28, a cancellation ceremony was held of a souvenir sheet dedicated to the 150th anniversary of A.M. Gorky, a writer



The participants in the event were Vladimir Shelikhov, Deputy Head of the Federal Communications Agency; Sergei Stepashin, Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society and President of the Russian Book Union; and Yury Evtyukhin, Director of Department for Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation

The postage stamp depicts a portrait of Alexey Gorky (1940) by Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky stored at A.M. Gorky Institute of the World Literature of the Russian Academy of Science.

In addition to the souvenir sheet, an FDC has been produced together with special cancellation postmarks for Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod; a souvenir set in an illustrated cover has been released too with a souvenir sheet and FDC with cancellation for Moscow inside. Circulation: 50 thousand.

“The Federal Communications Agency together with JSC Marka annually release various philatelic products dedicated to Russia’s outstanding personalities. I am certain that the souvenir sheet commemorating Maxim Gorky cancelled today will become a unique object in philatelic collections all over the world and will help today’s event to go down in history”, said Deputy Head of Rossvyaz.
