Studies by the artists of Afanasiy Sukhinin Art Studio are exhibited at JSC Marka

March 20, JSC Marka started an exhibition of paintings by the artists of Afanasiy Sukhinin Art Studio and his apprentices.

For over 40 years the art studio activities were inspired by Afanasiy Evstafyevich Sukhinin (1923 – 2011), a man of great talent and wide interests. He went through a hard school of life from a hungry Siberian village boy through the hardships of the Great Patriotic War and Nazi German concentration camps to a professional artist and fine arts master.

The art studio was set up by Afanasiy Sukhinin in the 1950s. Among his apprentices were not only workers or office staff, but also art lovers who lived nearby. The atmosphere at the studio was quite different from the outside scenery. They were painting and drawing, debating over colour and harmony, composition and accents, plasticity and subjects that were unusual to Moscow working districts. Apart from evening sessions, the art studio members went outside the city for landscape painting on weekends and made camping trips around Moscow Oblast and surrounding regions. The best works were displayed at the studio and AZLK, district and city exhibitions.

In a series of several exhibitions we would like to show the best plein air studies and drawings created throughout the art studio history. Sukhinin’s studio and his own works are distinguished by ongoing painting from nature. The study established in the Renaissance at first served only a preparatory material for greater creation; it then transformed into a separate fine art and was developed to a high degree of sophistication by Afanasiy Sukhinin and his apprentices.
