The General Assembly of the World Association for the Development of Philately (WADP) took place in Melbourne, Australia, on 31 March 2017 as part of the UPU Postal Operations Council activity. It is the first WADP event of the 2017–2020 Istanbul cycle chaired by the Russian Federation. Artyom Adibekov, WADP President and JSC “Marka” Director General, opened the Assembly.
The General Assembly defined the WADP composition and structure, and set key activities for the next four years.
The WADP overarching mission is to maintain ties and communication among key actors of the market in order to implement effective strategy of philately development around the world. The work plan involves developing the WADP Numeration System (WNS) and fighting illegal stamp issues, boosting cooperation among countries, attracting external partners, and organizing various philatelic competitions, forums, workshops and round tables with the aim of promoting philately and increasing interest in postage stamps.
