October 25, an official cancellation ceremony of a souvenir sheet dedicated to the 225th birth anniversary of Sergei Aksakov (1791–1859) and to the 175th birth anniversary of Savva Mamontov (1841–1918), an industrialist and a patron of the arts, took place

The ceremony took place in Moscow today. Vladimir Aristarkhov, the First Deputy to the Minister for Culture of the Russian Federation, and Vladimir Shelikhov, Deputy Head of the Federal Communications Agency, took part in the event.

The lives of Sergey Aksakov and Savva Mamontov were closely connected to Abramtsevo Museum Reserve located 60 km from Moscow, not far from Sergiyev Posad. The museum complex comprises architectural monuments of the 18th and the 19th centuries (6 of them are monuments of federal importance), a park and a scenic surrounding area of the Vorya River, where outstanding Russian artists created their works of art. The museum collection contains more than 25,000 objects, incl. paintings, drawings, ceramics, photographs and sculptures.

“Abramtsevo Estate is, to say the least of it, a phenomenon in the history of the cultural life of our country. The best creative people of that time, the intelligentsia, connected their fates with Abramtsevo; they truly exerted incredibly great influence on the development of Russian culture and on preserving its traditions and history. I hope these postage stamps will draw more attention to the unique Abramtsevo Museum Reserve and to the history of Russian art”, said Mr. Aristarkhov.

“The Federal Communications Agency and the supervised FSUE PTC “Marka” annually issues various products dedicated to outstanding culture luminaries and public figures. With its circulation exceeding 75 thousand copies, the souvenir sheet will go on sale in all the post offices of our country and will be included into Russian and international catalogs becoming a philatelic rarity for collectors from all around the world”, said Mr. Shelikhov.
