June 30, an official cancellation ceremony of a postage stamp dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Field Marshall General Dmitry Milyutin took place



The event was held at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Full State Counselor 1st Class of the Russian Federation Oleg Dukhovnitskiy, Head of the Federal Communications Agency, and Colonel General Sergey Makarov, Chief of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, signed the first day covers and applied souvenir postmarks on them.



The postage stamp features a portrait of Dmitry Milyutin against the background of the General Staff building situated in the Palace Square in St Petersburg. The stamp’s print-run amounts to 240,000 copies and the face value is 21.50 RUB.



Count Dmitry Alekseyevich Milyutin (1816–1912) was a Russian military historian and theorist, Minister for War (1861–1881) and the main mastermind of the 1860s military reform.

“The stamp issue shall remind the Russian citizens of the glorious chapters of history of our country. All postal service users and philately enthusiasts will get a possibility to use it when sending heir mails”, said Mr. Dukhovnitskiy.
