June 24, an official cancellation ceremony of a postage stamp dedicated to Rossiya Segodnya International Informational Agency takes place

Oleg Dukhovnitskiy, Head of the Federal Communications Agency; Dmitry Kiselyov, FSUE IIA “Rossiya Segodnya” Director General; and Dmitry Strashnov, FSUE “Russian Post” Director General, took part in the event.

“Rossiya Segodnya is one of the largest and oldest mass media, which comprises radio broadcasting, news feeds, information sites and multimedia international press-centers. The issue of the state sign of postal payment is of major cultural and educational importance, and will help promote the unique informational agency with a rich history” said Mr. Dukhovnitskiy.

Rossiya Segodnya’s history is traced back to the Soviet Information Bureau of SNK USSR (Sovinformburo), which was created on 24 June 1941. The main task of Sovinformburo was to prepare summaries for radio, newspapers and magazines concerning the situation at the fronts, war effort and guerilla movement during the Great Patriotic War.

Yuri Borisovich Levitan was the primary radio announcer of the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers on Television and Radio. His reading of Sovinformburo reports, orders of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and other announcements carried considerable agitation and propagandistic significance; it had a great emotional impact on the troops’ morale and the mood of the citizens.

Nowadays, Rossiya Segodnya is an international media group, whose mission is to provide immediate, evaluated and objective coverage of events all around the world and to inform the audience of different views on key events.

The postage stamp features a portrait of Yuri Levitan and Rossiya Segodnya anniversary logo.
