June 2, an official cancellation ceremony of a postage stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Russian Historical Society took place



Sergey Naryshkin, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the chairman of the Russian Historical Society; Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus' Cyril; Sergey Stepashin, the Russian Book Union President and the Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society; and Oleg Dukhovnitskiy, Head of the Federal Communications Agency, took part in the event.



Founded 150 years ago by outstanding historians, statesmen, poets, enlighteners and diplomats, the Russian Historical Society acted under the auspices of the Royal House since its conception. Several years later, the Society was named Imperial.



The activity of the Imperial Russian Historical Society centered round publications of history studies. 148 volumes were issued for 50 years. The majority of them retain their relevance nowadays.



The Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, St Petersburg State University, MGIMO, State History Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, State Hermitage, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Yeltsin Presidential Library, Russian State Library, the RTR, Interfax, Modern History Fund, Public Opinion Fund and many more are among the founders of the Russian Historical Society.



Nowadays, the Society consists of more than 60 organizations; there are more than 20 regional offices.



The postage stamp features the RHS logo.



Additionally, FSUE PTC “Marka” has manufactured a first day cover and a first day postmark for Moscow.
