August 3, 2015, a cancellation ceremony of postage stamps dedicated to the Heroes of World War I was held in a Petrovsky Palace

The participants of the ceremony were Sergei Naryshkin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Russian Historical Society; Oleg Dukhovnitskiy, Head of the Federal Communications Agency. The ceremony was held in a Petrovsky Palace during a meeting of the organizing committee, dedicated to the Day of memory of Russian soldiers who died in World War I.



The Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Marka” Publishing and Trading Centre supervised by the Federal Communications Agency continues the issue of postage stamps in the series “History of the World War I”. This edition is dedicated to Cavaliers of the Cross of St. George.

The stamps depict Konstantin Nedorubov, Ivan Tyulenev, Nikolai Ulanov, Ivan Khizhniak,- the heroes who were awarded four Crosses of St. George for martial merit and valor in World War I.

The Cross of St. George is the most honorable and legendary military state award of the Russian Empire. In total, it was handed over 1.5 million insignia of different degrees during World War I.

“Full cavaliers of Cross of St. George were the pride of Russian Armed Forces throughout the history of Russian military. It is honored that these outstanding individuals are entered into the history of philately. The heroic images are remained for ages in these post miniatures” - said Oleg Dukhovnitskiy, Head of the Federal Communications Agency.

Konstantin Nedorubov (1889-1978) was the commander of the squadron, Guard Captain. He entered the military service of Cossacks in the 15th Don Cossack Regiment of the 14th Army Corps of General Brusilov, in 1911. He was awarded four crosses of St. George for bravery in World War I and two medals of St. George's for combat bravery. He finished the war with the rank of podkhorunzhyi.



Ivan Tyulenev (1892-1978) was the lieutenant, participated in World War I from September, 1914. He was awarded six crosses of St. George for bravery shown in the battles of World War I. He fought on the Western, Southwestern and Northern fronts; was distinguished in battles in Poland and in Dvinsk, the Baltic States.



Nikolai Ulanov (1881-1948) was the podkhorunzhyi. During the First World War, Nikolai Ulanov was in the top one hundred of the 18th Orenburg Cossack Regiment. He took a part in the hostilities in the south-western front. He was awarded four crosses of St. George for bravery shown in the battles of World War I.



Ivan Khizhnyak (1893-1980) was an Ensign. During World War I, he served as part of the 3rd, 222nd, 153rd, 286th and 208th Regiment in positions of the ordinary, the platoon commander, the sergeant-major company, the company commander, the elected commander of the regiment. He was awarded four crosses of St. George for bravery shown in the battles of World War I.

It is important to note that all of them have continued to serve the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War. Konstantin Nedorubov, Guard Lieutenant and Ivan Tyulenev, General of the Army were awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union title for courage and heroism.
