Russian postage stamp was awarded the Grand Prix of the international philatelic competition WIPA

A souvenir sheet dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh, issued by FSUE “Marka” Publishing and Trading Centre supervised by the Federal Communications Agency in September 2014, received the Grand Prix, according to the results of the contest for the best postage stamp WIPA 2014.



The souvenir sheet depicts a sacred procession headed by the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh aginst the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, there is a flock of birds in the sky (Sergius’s followers and disciples). Among historical figures are (from left to right): the Grand Prince Dmitry Donskoy, the legendary monk and combat Alexander Peresvet; there are also modern Orthodox believers carrying lit candles. The circulation of a souvenir sheet is 85,000 copies. Design: S. Ulyanovskiy.

The international competition "Grand Prix exhibition WIPA» is one of the most respected and prestigious philatelic competitions. It is held annually in the city of Vienna (Austria) and has a huge success. Members of the jury are the famous Austrian stamp artists, philatelic journalists, representatives of the Austrian postal administration and of the Austrian State Printing Office.
