A new graphic symbol of the ruble will be depicted on postage stamps and souvenir sheets of the Russian Federation from January 2015, as was decided by the Federal Communications Agency Commission.
Cyrillic letter P, the lower part of which crosses with the horizontal line was adopted as a symbol of the ruble in 2013. Decision was preceded by public discussion, which took place on the web-site of the Bank of Russia. Citizens were asked to choose a favorite sign from the five variations. 280,000 people have taken a part in the discussion. The most popular sign - the letter P with a horizontal line - scored more than 61% of the vote.
The first postage stamp depicted a new sign of the ruble was the stamp “Toys” issued in the series “Europe”.
