August 11, a cancellation ceremony of a postage stamp “For the Defense of Sevastopol” in the series “Medals for defensive battles of 1941-1942” was held in Sevastopol. The event is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the liberation from Nazi invaders.

The participants of the ceremony were Oleg Dukhovnitsky, Head of the Federal Communications Agency; and Sergey Menyailo, Acting Governor of Sevastopol.

2014 is a significant year for our country. It is the year of restoration of historical justice, the reunification of the Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia. It is no coincidence that the cancellation ceremony of a postage stamp was held in Sevastopol - the city-legend, the city of the great destiny and the homeland of Russian Black Sea Fleet!”- Said Oleg Dukhovnitsky.

A stamp “For the Defense of Sevastopol” in the series “Medals for defensive battles of 1941-1942” pasted on the envelope, which depicts a medal for the third defense of Sevastopol.

The Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Marka” Publishing and Trading Centre supervised by the Federal Communications Agency issued 8 stamps “Medals for defensive battles of 1941-1942”, depicting the Medals for the defense of Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kiev, Odessa, Soviet Arctic, Caucasus and Sevastopol.

The following year, it will be released 9 more stamps depicting the medals “For the Liberation of Belgrade”, “For the Liberation of Warsaw”, “For the Liberation of Prague”, “For the Capture of Budapest”, “For the Capture of Koenigsberg”, “For the Capture of Vienna”, “For the Capture of Berlin”, “For the Victory over Japan”, and “For the Victory over Germany in the World War II”, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the World War II.
