More information about stamps in the Europa Programme:
Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe’s desire for closer integration and cooperation. EUROPA stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations/enterprises and bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop. Until 1973 the EUROPA stamps had an identical design. Starting from 1974, stamp designs have started to vary, and the stamps are now grouped by theme.
In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps. Every year philatelic experts in working groups hold various competitions along with different philatelic initiatives. The Competition for the Best Europa Stamp Designs has been held since 2002. Among the winners are Malta, Monaco, Greenland, Island, Ukraine, Armenia, Hungary.
Russia joined the EUROPA stamp issue in 1995 with its “Peace and Freedom” stamp.
