Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev (1888–1972) was a Soviet aircraft designer and the founder of the Soviet and world strategic aeronautical engineering. He was one of the most prominent aircraft designers of the 20th century. He created first Soviet all-metal airplanes ANT-2 and ANT-3, developed a series of military and civilian aircraft, first jet passenger aircraft Tu-104, first intercontinental turboprop passenger airliner Tu-114, etc. More than 200 types of aircraft were designed, 70 of which were mass-produced.

The envelope with an original stamp depicts a portrait of Tupolev against the background of the Tu-2 blueprint; the aircraft designer is in his office at the desk.

An illustrated cover with a sheet of stamps, FDCs with cancellation and an envelope with an original stamp are prepared for the issue.
