Joint-Stock Company Russian Corporation of Rocket and Space Instrumentation and Information Systems (JSC Russian Space Systems) is part of the Roscosmos State Corporation; it specializes in the design, manufacture, and operation of space information systems. Its main areas of activity include the creation, development, and targeted use of the GLONASS global navigation satellite system, space-based search and rescue systems, hydrometeorological support systems, radio-technical support for space scientific research, and ground-based stations for receiving and processing of remote sensing data of the Earth.
In July of 2015, the RKS began developing the National Satellite Network for High-Precision Positioning; the implementation of this project ensured high-precision real-time determination of object coordinates. In 2021, the ground-based infrastructure for the high-precision wide-area functional extension of the GLONASS was completed, based on the development of a differential correction and monitoring system. In February of 2021, a Soyuz-2.1b rocket put into orbit the Arktika-M weather satellite, equipped with RKS hardware. A Microelectronics Center has been arranged at the RKS. The RKS is developing an artificial intelligence subsystem for the Digital Economy national project within the Digital Earth initiative.
