Yuri Vladimirovich Nikulin (1921-1997) - circus performer (clown), film actor, TV presenter, People's Artist of the USSR (1973). He was born on December 18, 1921 in the city of Demidov (now the Smolensk region). On November 8, 1939, after graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Red Army. In the Great Patriotic War, he fought near Leningrad. He was demobilized in May 1946 with the rank of senior sergeant; during the war he was awarded the medals "For Courage", "For the Defense of Leningrad" and "For the Victory over Germany". After the end of the war, he entered the clowning studio at the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. After completing his training, he began working as an assistant with the popular clown Pencil. While working for him, Yuri Nikulin met Mikhail Shuidin, with whom they formed the famous clown duo. X

The actor made his film debut at the age of 36 and from the first pictures he established himself as an inimitable multi-character actor. He brought various mask roles from the circus arena to the screen, making extensive use of circus eccentricity and texture, playing in the films " The Girl with the Guitar "and"The Unyielding". One of the film novellas of the film "Dog Barbos and an unusual cross" directed by Leonid Gaidai marked the beginning of the roles that provided the actor with national love. The unforgettable image of the Stooge from the famous troika in the comedies "Moonshiners", "Operation" Y "and other adventures of Shurik", "The Caucasian Captive, or the New Adventures of Shurik" is distinguished by exceptional charm and cheerfulness. The most famous are the comedies with his participation — "The Diamond Hand", "12 chairs", "Old robbers". But the actor played not only comic roles. In the films "When the trees were big", "Andrey Rublev", "They fought for the Motherland", "Twenty days without war", the dramatic talent of the performer was revealed. In the last years of his life, Yuri Vladimirovich led a humorous program "White Parrot", was one of the regular participants of the program "Ships came into our harbor". In 1982, he became the director of the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. Under him, a new building was built for the circus, the opening of which took place in 1989. Yuri Vladimirovich worked in his native circus for 50 years.X
