Naberezhnye Chelny is a city of republican significance in Tatarstan. It is located in the northeast of the republic on the left bank of the Kama River, the Chelny River, and the Nizhnekamsk Reservoir. It is a major industrial center and the second most populous city in Tatarstan.
The largest enterprise in the city is the KAMAZ group of companies. It manufactures trucks, trailers, buses, electric buses, special-purpose vehicles, engines, and power units.
There are factories in operation that produce metal pipes and piles (Naberezhnye Chelny Pipe Plant TEMPO), lifting equipment (Naberezhnochelninsky Crane Plant), electrical installation products, power line supports (Electrical Installation Products Plant, a branch of Tatelektromontazh), electrical equipment for dump trucks, excavators, and electric transport (Transport Electrical Equipment Plant), and others.
The city has the Nizhnekamsk Hydroelectric Power Plant and the Naberezhnochelninskaya Thermal Power Plant. The Orlovskoye oil field is located in the city's industrial zone.
