Artek is an International Children's Centre located on the Black Sea coast in Crimea. It was founded on June 16, 1925, on the initiative of the Chairman of the Russian Red Cross Society Z. Solovyov as a children's health camp.

In the first year, only 320 children recreated here. Artek residents lived in canvas tents; it was two years later that light plywood houses were built on the shore, and in the 1930s, owing to the winter building built in the upper park, the camp was gradually put on the year-round operation.

Modern Artek is the world's most famous children's Centre, hosting more than 40,000 children a year. The camp successfully implements one of the most important tasks: children’s health improvement owing to the unique natural and climatic potential and achievements of modern medicine.

Carefully preserving the best pedagogical traditions, modern Artek makes use of the latest methods that permit to make children's holidays as intense and interesting as possible.

The postage stamp provides a drawing of Ruslan Minyailenko from Lugansk, the Winner of the drawing contest.
