December 8, 2024, will mark the 25th Anniversary of signing the Treaty on the Creation of a Union State.
In January of 2000, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin exchanged instruments of ratification, and from that moment, the most important interstate document came into effect.
The goals proclaimed by the Union Treaty, such as the development of fraternal peoples, building of a common economic space, observation of the rights and freedoms of citizens, pursuing a coordinated foreign, defense and social policy, combating terrorist danger, serve as a testimony of the creation of a new type of interstate association, where large-scale integration work is combined with the sovereign equality of the member states.
The postage stamp provides an image of the emblem of the Union State as well as Russian and Belarussian ornaments; the margins of the souvenir sheet feature coats of arms of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and quotes of the presidents of the states A. Lukashenko and V. Putin.
