UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) was founded in 1945. The basic objective of the Organization is to favor the consolidation of peace and security by promoting collaboration among nations in the field of education, science and culture in order to ensure universal respect for justice, the reign of law and human rights for all peoples without distinction of race, sex, language or religion.
Russia has been a Member State of UNESCO since April 21 of 1954. To date, our country has 21 cultural and 11 natural World Heritage sites. In 2021, the Petroglyphs of Lake Onega and the White Sea site was registered in UNESCO.
The postage stamps provide an image of petroglyphs of Lake Onega and the White Sea; the margins of the souvenir sheet feature a view on Lake Onega.
