The Adyghe Republic is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation making part of the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasian economic region. The capital is the city of Maikop. The population is 468.3 thousand people (2022). The Adyghe Republic was formed on July 27, 1922, as the Cherkessian (Adygean) Autonomous Oblast. Since March 24, 1992, it is the Adyghe Republic in the composition of the Russian Federation.
Adygea is a unique region full of natural treasures. There are mountains and forests where hunting is allowed; there is a part of the famous Caucasian Nature Biosphere Reserve. The mountains of Adygea are registered in the UNESCO List of the World Heritage objects. Adygea is an industrial-agrarian republic with such industries as food manufacturing, woodworking, pulp and paper sector, mechanical engineering and metalworking.
