Veniamin F. Yakovlev (1932-2018) was a D.Sci.Jus., an educator, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the First Chairman of the Supreme Arbitrazh Court of the Russian Federation, an adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Full Cavalier of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland.
Since 1989, V. Yakovlev held the post of the Minister of Justice of the USSR. In 1991, he was elected the Chairman of the Supreme Arbitrazh Court of the USSR, and since 1992, he headed the Supreme Arbitrazh Court of the Russian Federation.
In 2005, he was appointed an Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation. He took an active part in the preparation and implementation of the Concept of Development of Civil Legislation of the Russian Federation, in the formulation of draft laws on making amendments to the Civil Code.
Veniamin F. Yakovlev was one of the foremost Russian legal scholars in the field of civil law, the author of more than 300 scientific works, many of which have played a major role in the establishment and development of independent justice, the construction of a law-bound state in Russia.
