May 2020 marks a Centenary of the formation of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Republic was established on May 27, 1920, as the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic; since 1992, the Republic of Tatarstan has its current name.
The Republic is a component part of the Volga Federal District. Its area is 67.8 thousand square km The population is 3.86 million people (2017). The capital of the Republic is Kazan. Today, Tatarstan is an economically developed and culturally rich region.
The 2015 postal block of the Coats of Arms of Cities and Constituent Entities of the Russian Federation series was overprinted with a new face value of 100 rubles and commemorative text Centenary.
