State awards of the Russian Federation are the highest form of encouragement of citizens for distinguished service in the Fatherland protection, state construction, economy, science, culture, art, education, protecting health, life and rights of citizens, charity and other merits to the State.
Establishing of and decorating by state awards is the privilege of the President of the Russian Federation.
The Medal of Zhukov was instituted in 1994.
The Medal of Zhukov is presented to military personnel for courage, dedication and personal courage shown in hostilities when defending their Fatherland, for special battle honors in military service, for excellent indicators in combat practice.
Medal Defender of Free Russia was instituted in 1992.
The Defender of Free Russia Medal is presented to citizens of the Russian Federation and foreign citizens for their courage demonstrated in defending the constitutional system, for their merits in carrying out democratic reforms, and for consolidation of the Russian statehood.
The Medal of Nesterov was instituted in 1994.
The Medal of Nesterov is presented to Air Forces military personnel for personal courage and gallantry, demonstrated in defending the Fatherland and the state interests of the Russian Federation, for excellent indicators in combat practice and flight skills.
The Medal of Pushkin was instituted in 1999.
The Medal of Pushkin is presented to citizens for merits in the field of culture and art, enlightenment, human sciences and literature, for their great contribution into a study and preservation of the cultural heritage, in the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of cultures of nations and nationalities.
