Izvestia is a Soviet and Russian social, political and business daily newspaper established in 1917. The newspaper began as the News of the Petrograd Soviet of Workers Deputies on March 13 (O.S. February 28), 1917 in Petrograd.
Izvestia was the official mouthpiece of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union since July 14, 1923. The newspaper became News of the Soviets of Working Deputies on January 26, 1938. It was an independent media in August 1991; privatized on November 3, 1992, it was transformed into a Public Joint-Stock Company “Izvestia newspaper office”. Since 1996, the newspaper has been owned by various Russian big business structures.
Izvestia was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1949 and the Order of Lenin in 1967 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first issue. The newspaper received the Order of the October Revolution on January 12, 1977.
The postage stamp features the Izvestia anniversary logo.
