The Battle of Moscow was the first strategic operation in World War II, which debunked the myth the Wehrmacht forces were invincible. The operation resulted in repelling and flinging back the enemy, and protecting the Soviet Union capital.
The victory was achieved thanks to superiority of Soviet art of war, mass heroism and war effort of the people. The heroic deed of the Panfilov Division's Twenty-Eight Guardsmen, some of whom were Kazakh, became a symbol of tenacious courage.
Moscow was awarded an honorary title of a Hero City together with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal in 1965.
The postage stamp features a bas-relief depicting a group of Soviet soldiers during the Battle of Moscow.
