The Kachin Military Aviation College is the first school for military pilots in Russia. It was founded in 1910 by the Grand Duke Alexander Romanov on voluntary donations from citizens. The first graduation of Sevastopol Officer Aviation School (original name) took place on October 26, 1911. In 1912 the school was relocated to a small village near the river Kacha and received the name of Kachin. College by right is proud of its illustrious graduates: thrice Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal of Aviation A.I. Pokryshkin; Heroes of the Soviet Union - an astronaut V.M. Afanasyev, a test pilot S.A. Mikoyan, distinguished test pilot B.L. Buchholz and many others. School has trained about 17,000 pilots. Among them: 329 Heroes of the Soviet Union, 29 Heroes of the Russian Federation, 126 Honored Pilots and 12 Air Marshals. Aircraft monuments in Volgograd and Kotelnikovo city of the Volgograd Region were built in honor of the Kachin Military Aviation College.
Postage stamp is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the school. The stamp depicts the sign of the graduate of the school in 1938.
