Kursk Region was formed on June 13, 1934, it is a part of the Central Federal District. In 2009, the region celebrated its 75th anniversary. The stamp depicts: Streletskaya steppe which is a part of Tsentralno Chernozemny Zapovednik (Nature Reserve); Mikhailovsky GOK, which produces about 20% of domestic iron ore raw materials as well as the Triumphal arch - an element of the memorial complex dedicated to the Battle of Kursk. The arch is topped by the equestrian figure of St. George the Trophy-bearer; the monument to commander Georgy Zhukov is located behind it.
