№ 1416-1417. 275th anniversary of birth of Dmitry Levitsky (1735-1822)

Dmitry Grigorievich Levitsky is one of the most important portrait painters from the glorious galaxy of artists of the XVIII century. Levitsky laid the basis for the new achievements in the field of Russian realistic portraits. Ceremonial portraits of Empress Catherine II and Prince Demidov, a portrait of the philosopher Denis Diderot and many other famous paintings belong to his brush. Ceremonial portrait of the architect A.F. Kokorinov became one of the most famous works of artist and brought fame to him. In the Levitsky’s works you can notice not only high compositional and artistic skills of the painter, but also remarkable psychological depth and accuracy of the created images.
