№ 1399-1403. Cities of military glory

Yelnya. For the first time the city was occupied on July 19, 1941 and liberated by the military unit of the 24th Army of the Reserve Front on September 6. A month later there was a re-occupation which lasted from October 6, 1941 until August 30, 1943. During Yelninskaya- Dorogobuzhskaya operation city was liberated. On October 8, 2007 by the Presidential Decree Yelnya was given the honorary title "City of Military Glory."

Yelets. Yelets offensive operation was conducted in December, 1941 which resulted in liberation of more than 8,000 sq. km of territory, 400 settlements, including Livny and Yelets by the Soviet troops. In fact it was this operation which didn't allow the Germans to reach Moscow. By the Presidential Decree of October 8, 2007 the city was given the honorary title "City of Military Glory".

Voronezh. Fascists began their offensive against Voronezh on June 28, 1942 and occupied the right-bank part of the city. However, Soviet troops continued to hold the left-bank part. It was here from where the ousting of the enemy began, which finished on January 25, 1943 with complete liberation of the city. On February 16, 2008 President of the Russian Federation signed a decree on conferring the honorary title "City of Military Glory" to Voronezh.

Luga. In 1941 the city became a place of fighting battles on the outskirts of Leningrad. On August 24, 1941 the territory was occupied by Nazi troops, and liberated only on February 12, 1944. The honorary title "City of Military Glory" was conferred to Luga by the Presidential Decree of May 5, 2008.
