Appolinariy Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1856-1933) was a Russian painter, graphic artist, an artist of historic painting. He was carried away by painting in his childhood already and was taught by his brother, a famous painter Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov. Vasnetsov became the founder of historic landscape genre. He mainly depicted the old Moscow. He was the chairman of "The old Moscow" society for saving ancient monuments since 1917. Appolinariy Vasnetsov started showing his pictures at expositions of the Association of moving picture exhibitions in 1883. The painter's portrait by N.D. Kuznetsov (1897, The State Tretiakov Gallery) is depicted on the stamp.
