A postage stamp commemorates the birth centenary of E.T.Krenkel (1903-1971), a polar explorer, doctor of geography. Ernst T.Krenkel was a radio communications operator of many polar stations such as: the Matochkin Shar, the Tikhaya Bay, the Olovyanny Cape and the Island of Domashny as well as the first draft-ice unit "North Pole" (1937-1938). Ernst T.Krenkel took part in numerous Arctic marine expeditions as a radio operator. He established radio contact between Franz Josef Land and Antarctica, there the world high frequency distance record was set. The stamp features the dirigible "Count Zeppelin" and ice-breaking ship "Malygin" in the Bay of Tikhaya (the arctic expedition of 1931), the arctic rout of the dirigible, a portrait of Ernst T.Krenkel, a polar station where Ernst T. Krenkel was a radio operator, RAEM - radio call sign of the polar explorer.
