Downhill skiing is a winter kind of sport. It is a coasting along special tracks marked with gates and flags. The time is being fixed. The Winter Olympic Games programme has been changing since 1936. It is only since 1988 that it has comprised 5 kinds of coasting: slalom, giant slalom, supergiant slalom, downhill skiing and alpine double-event. World downhill skiing championships have been carried out since 1931.

Figure skating is a kind of skating which comprises combinations of steps, circumgyration, jumps, etc. There are the following types of figure skating: men's skating, women's skating, single skating, pair skating and sport dancing. Europe figure skating championships have been carried out since 1891. World championships - since 1896. In 1908 figure skating was included in the Olympic Games programme and in 1924 it became part of the Winter Olympic Games.

Ski-jumping competitions are included in the programme of ski double-event. In 1924 ski-jumping was included in the Winter Olympic Games.
