During his reign the Russian Empire took part in the Russian-Japanese war in 1904-1905 and was defeated which in a way triggered the revolution of 1905-1907. In 1907 Russia became part of the Entente and later joined the WWI. In August 1915 Nicholas II became The Supreme Commander-in-Chief. During the February Revolution of 1917 Nicholas II abdicated. The stamp features details of the Great Coat of Arms of the Russian Empire, approved in 1857.
