The stamp features a detail of a memorial at the former Oswenzim concentration camp, an urn with the remains of the victims who were killed in the camp’s crematorium (the monument was opened in 1967, authors: E.Yarnushkevich, U.Palka, T.Valle, M.Vitale). During the camp’s four years history more than four million people were killed in it. In January 1945 the Soviet troops discharged its prisoners. In the right part of the stamp there is a monument to the fighters against fascism built on the site of the former Zaxenhausen concentration camp (the complex was opened in 1961, by L.Deiters, R.Grets,V.Grzimek, V.Vomaka). The concentration camp where more than 100,000 people were killed was liberated by the Soviet troops in April 1945.
