Moscow. The Volkov Chambers (end of 17 c). This is an example of traditional pre-Peter the Great urban mansions. The stone house is traditionally structured, comprising a few separate stone houses linked by inner porches. The pointed roofs of various shapes, white-stone window casings which stood out brightly make the house very picturesque. An external stone flight of stairs leads to the first floor, above which there is another storey of small rooms. The splendid decoration is characteristic of the Moscow barocco. In one of the houses of the mansion Pushkin's parents rented a flat in 1801, so the Poet’s first impressions of Moscow are closely linked with this place.
