Apart from Santa Claus the Russian Father Frost a character from national tales and superstitions. He started visiting houses since it had been decided to celebrate the New Year in Russia. The legend says that at first the Father Frost was not the high-spirited old man we know now. He used to give presents only to the obedient children and the others only got socks. But time waxed on and the father Frost got kinder. He only needs his crook to base himself upon it, he gives presents to all children without distinction and his granddaughter Snegurochka helps him.
