Russian post service is one of the oldest ones in Europe. In the 10th century there was a special duty of "povoz" in Russia (to give horses and carts to the runners of a prince). In the 13th century a special service for delivering post messages was created. It was the so-called "yamskaya gonba" (post stations with horses and drivers). In the 17th-18th cc a separate establishment for delivering private messages was created. Nowadays there are more than 40 thousand post offices all over Russia.
