Russian zoos are home to a variety of animals — from Asian elephants, crocodiles and alpacas to turtles, frogs and flamingos. There are also representatives of endangered species: the Amur tiger, the Pallas's cat, the Himalayan black bear, the Amur leopard, the wolverine and many others. Among the inhabitants of the zoos, there are parrots.
The collection of the Moscow Zoo features various species of parrots: macaws, cockatoos, Amazon parrots, the ring-necked parakeet, the Patagonian conure and the red-fan parrot, as well as the African grey parrot.
Stocking the zoos with rare animal species is part of species conservation programs. Specialists provide conditions as close to natural ones as possible so that the birds can breed and feel comfortable. At the same time, an individual diet is selected for each species.
The postage stamps feature the red macaw and the military macaw in their natural habitat.
