In March 1942, he graduated from the Bataysk Military Aviation Pilot School, and in December of the same year, he got to the front. In total, during the Great Patriotic War, Skomorokhov made 605 weapons sorties, participated in more than 130 air battles, shot down 46 fascist aircrafts individually and 8 planes in a composition of a group (the 7th result on the list of Soviet fighter aces), and destroyed 3 enemy bomber aircrafts on the ground.
