The history of the company began in 1923, when application for shares of the Dobrolyot Russian Voluntary Air Fleet Society was invited on March 17. On July 15, 1923, the USSR’s first regular 420 km long passenger airline Moscow - Nizhniy Novgorod was opened. In 1932, the abbreviated name Aeroflot was given to the USSR civil air fleet.
Today “Aeroflot - Russian Airlines” is a Russian public-private air company operating domestic and international flights. Combined with its subsidiaries Rossiya and Pobeda, it forms the “Aeroflot Group”, an aviation holding company, which is among the world's top 20 airlines in terms of passenger traffic.
The postage stamp provides a symbolic image of a flight hostess against the background of a flying plane; the margins of the stamp sheet feature the logo of Aeroflot Airlines.
