Iulian Rukavishnikov (1922-2000) was an outstanding sculptor, a Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts (1997), a People's Artist of the USSR (1988), and a winner of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1999).
In 1978, Iulian Rukavishnikov was appointed a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. Since 1997, he was a Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Art works by Rukavishnikov are available in museums and private collections in Russia and foreign countries. The best known works are monuments to Anton Chekhov in Taganrog (1960) and Igor Kurchatov in Moscow (1971), a memorial at the death site of Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and test pilot Vladimir Seregin in the Vladimir Region (1975), sculptures Water Clock (1990), Seagulls (1998), The Bird (1998), The Rooster (1999).
