Moscow is the capital of Russia, a city of federal status and the administrative center of the Central Federal District. It is the largest city in Russia in terms of population (12,635,466 people as of 2022) and its constituent region.
Moscow is a popular tourist center of Russia. The Kremlin, the Red Square, the Novodevichy Monastery and the Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city is a major transport hub with its 6 airports, 10 railway stations, and 3 river harbors. Since 1935, Moscow has had a metro system in operation.
Contemporary Moscow has more than 100 theaters; it is home to more than 60 museums. The city is nationwide largest financial center, an international business center, and the management center of much of the country's economy.
