A new series of stamps timed to the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 is dedicated to the military uniforms of the Red Army and Navy of the USSR.
The uniforms and rank insignia of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army changed every few years, aligning with the current demands and requirements of the time.
In 1941, during the first months of the War, an order was passed ordaining that henceforward, all branches of troops in the field were to wear olive-drab uniforms and rank insignia. On August 3, 1941, an order was issued, which stipulated that the uniform for women should comprise a beret with a metal star, a coat of grey cloth, and a battle grey dress of cloth or wool. In the same year, the shoulder sleeve insignia were cancelled and generals began to wear trousers without stripes in their everyday uniforms.
The postal stamps provide images of soldiers in the military uniform of 1941: a Red Army soldier and rifle company commander; a fighter pilot and aircraft mechanic; a tank loader, tank commander and driver mechanic; a brigade headquarters orderly and officer of the deck.
