Emissions of state valuable postal matter in August

On August 4, four postage stamps dedicated to stained-glass artwork will go into postal circulation in the Decorative and Applied Arts of Russia series

Stained-glass artwork is a form of artistic expression that combines history, complex manufacturing techniques, and architectural elements.

In Russia, the art of stained glass originated in the first quarter of the 19th century; painted glass elements appeared occasionally in garden and park structures styled after Gothic architecture of Western Europe, or in rural palaces.

Today, the art of stained glass continues to evolve, blending historical traditions with modern technologies, materials, and design approaches.

The postage stamps feature the following stained-glass artworks:
– the mansion of B. Svyatopolk-Chetvertinsky (1887, Moscow);
– the Kul Sharif Mosque (2005, Kazan);
– the mansion of merchant A. Markov (1905, Nizhny Novgorod); and
– the building of the Rossiya Insurance Company (1905–1907, St. Petersburg).

In addition to the issue of the postage stamps, JSC Marka will produce First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and Nizhny Novgorod, as well as maxi-cards and a souvenir set in an illustrated cover with the postage stamps of the 2-nd emission type inside.

On August 6, a postage stamp dedicated to Stanislav Govorukhin, a film director, a People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, will go into postal circulation

Stanislav Govorukhin (1936–2018) was a Soviet and Russian film actor, a film director, a screenwriter, a film producer, and political and public figure; he was a People’s Artist of the Russian Federation (2006). He was the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture (2011 - 2018).

S. Govorukhin directed a great number of feature films, semi-documentary films, and documentary films, and wrote more than twenty screenplays, as well as several books. He also appeared in many films as an actor.

The postage stamp features a portrait of S. Govorukhin against a background of a movie camera, a clapperboard, and a film reel.

On August 11, a postage stamp dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of a subsidiary of PJSC S.V. Ilyushin Aviation Complex - Aviastar will go into postal circulation

The history of the company began on June 10, 1976, with the construction of the Ulyanovsk Aviation Industrial Complex. Today, it is a subsidiary of JSC Il – Aviastar - the aircraft manufacturing plant in Ulyanovsk that makes part of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

It specializes in the production of Il-76MD-90A transport aircraft and Il-78M-90A refueling aircraft, as well as in the maintenance of An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft. It is engaged in the joint production of the new MS-21 medium-range passenger aircraft, the Il-112V light transport aircraft, and the Il-114-300 regional aircraft. The company provides warranty and post-warranty maintenance for aviation products.

The postage stamp features an Il-76MD-90A aircraft against the backdrop of the Aviastar aviation complex in Ulyanovsk.

On August 13, a postage stamp dedicated to the Skryplev Lighthouse will go into postal circulation in the Lighthouses of Russia series

The Skryplev Lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses in the Far East, located on the island of the same name, 3 km apart from the south of Vladivostok. The island is named after military hydrographer Konstantin Skryplev. The construction of the lighthouse started in 1866, it proceeded intermittently and was completed only 10 years later. The official opening date was November 20 of 1876.

The postage stamp features the Skryplev Lighthouse against a map of Russky Island and a wind rose.

On August 13, a postcard with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network will go into postal circulation

The Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network (RTRS) is a Russian state-owned company that operates the country’s over-the-air television and radio transmission network. Its headquarters is located in Moscow.

RTRS was founded on August 13 of 2001. It is included in the list of Russia’s strategic enterprises; it provides 98.6% of Russia’s population with twenty mandatory overt television channels and three radio channels in the DVB-T2 standard - which are part of the first and second multiplexes of the Digital Terrestrial television - and contributes to the development of mobile communications.

The commemorative stamp features the logo of the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network; the main image shows a radio tower designed by engineer V. Shukhov.

On August 18, a postcard with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Lev Berg, a geographer, a biologist, will go into postal circulation in the Geographical Projects of Russia series

Lev Berg (1876–1950) was a Russian and Soviet ichthyologist, a paleontologist, a geographer, and an evolutionist. He was the President of the Geographical Society of the USSR (1940–1950), an Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1946), and a holder of the Stalin Prize (1951). He was the father of the theory of nomogenesis.

L. Berg’s papers cover a wide range of fields, from ichthyology and climatology to the landscape science and the history of geography. His scientific legacy includes more than 700 publications. The scientist’s work laid the foundations for modern sciences, such as landscape science, contemporary physical geography, climatology, and paleogeography. His ideas about natural zones and landscapes are still employed in scientific studies and education today.

The main illustration provides a portrait of Lev Berg against a schematic map of Russia’s landscape zones compiled by the scientist, as well as the RGO logo; the commemorative stamp features images that symbolically represent geographical projects.

On August 20, a postage stamp dedicated to Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov, the first President of the Chechen Republic, a statesman and a public figure, will go into postal circulation in the Heroes of the Russian Federation series

Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov (1951–2004) was a Russian statesman and a political figure. He was the first President of the Chechen Republic in the composition of the Russian Federation. By the Decree of the President of the Rus
sian Federation of May 10 of 2004, for the courage and heroism demonstrated on ensuring the revival of the Chechen Republic and in the fight against terrorism A. Kadyrov was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously).

The postage stamp features a portrait of Hero of the Russian Federation A. Kadyrov and the Golden Star Medal; in the background, there is the Heart of Chechnya Mosque named after Akhmat Kadyrov.

On August 27, four postage stamps dedicated to architecture of the Voronezh Region will go into postal circulation in the Cultural Heritage of Russia series

The Voronezh Region is rich in architectural landmarks that reflect its centuries-old history and cultural diversity.

The Dormition Church (the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary, the Dormition Admiralty Church) is an architectural monument of the 17th century. It is a cultural heritage site of federal significance in Russia.

The Mariinsky Gymnasium was built in 1875 according to a design by architect Viktor Pereverzev to serve as the city’s first state-run girls’ gymnasium. It is an architectural monument of regional significance.

The Princess Oldenburg’s Palace is a manor house of the late 19th century in the workers’ settlement of Ramon in the Voronezh Region. It belonged to the Russian branch of the Oldenburg Family. The Palace is a monument of brick Neo-Gothic architecture, a cultural heritage site of Russia of regional significance.

The South-Eastern Railway Administration Building was constructed in 1929–1930 based on a design by Voronezh architect N. Troitsky. By 1952, a new building with a tower was added, incorporating elements of the Stalinist Empire style. It is a cultural heritage site of regional significance in Russia.

The postage stamps provide images of the Dormition Church, the Mariinsky Gymnasium, the Oldenburg’s Palace and the South-Eastern Railway Administration Building.

On August 28, a souvenir sheet with four stamps dedicated to St. Petersburg bridges will go into postal circulation in the Architectural Structures. Bridges series


Bank Bridge is a pedestrian metal beam bridge spanning the Griboyedov Canal in the Central District of St. Petersburg, connecting Kazansky and Spassky Islands.

Egyptian Bridge is a steel-frame road bridge spanning the Fontanka River in the Admiralty District of St. Petersburg, connecting Pokrovsky and Bezymyanny Islands.

Lion Bridge is a pedestrian metal beam bridge across the Griboyedov Canal in the Admiralty District of St. Petersburg, connecting Kazansky and Spassky Island.

The Second Engineers’ Bridge is a stone arch road bridge spanning the now-buried Voskresensky Canal in the Central District of St. Petersburg, located on the right embankment of the Fontanka River near the Mikhailovsky (Engineering) Castle.

The postage stamps feature bridges in St. Petersburg: Bank Bridge, Egyptian Bridge, Lion Bridge, and the Second Engineers’ Bridge.

On August 31, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture will go into postal circulation

The All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture (VOOPIK) is a public organization that was established in the RSFSR in 1965. In July of 1966, the Constituent Congress of VOOPIK took place.

The main goals of the society’s activities are the protection, restoration and promotion of cultural heritage objects (historical and cultural monuments) of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.

During the decades of the activities, thanks to the efforts of the Society thousands of cultural heritage sites were protected from demolition and restored.

The envelope with the original stamp provides an image of the Staraya Ladoga fortress (Staraya Ladoga Historical, Architectural, and Archaeological Museum-Reserve); the commemorative stamp features the building of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture.
